Jesus Teaches Prayer

Matthew 6:5-15 (NIV84)

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Today’s Journey

You cannot build a relationship on a formula. People are dynamic and so should our relationships be. Prayer is dynamic as well. The good news Jesus lived showed us God wants to relate to us as much, if not more as we might want to relate to him. He is Father. He knows what we need before we even ask.

Prayers are more than just words to recite. Prayer is relational. Prayer is two-way communication.

God notices your prayers. Jesus invited people to get alone with God, not to try to impress God or others with the many words prayed. But when you get alone with God you will find He is there to hear and answer your prayers. The big question of prayer is not if God hears you when you pray. The question is, do you hear God when you pray?
