Way Truth Life - Week Two - Day Five

Jesus Sends out his followers

Mark 6:6-13, Matthew 10, Luke 9:1-9 (NIV84)

Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.

Mark 3:13-15

Today’s Journey

Jesus called people to himself. The first part of the call is to follow Jesus and be with Him. Then Jesus appointed them. A better word is made them. Then the followers of Jesus were sent out with authority. The Gospel comes with authority. The followers of Jesus preached. as Jesus preached.

If Jesus sends a person on a mission, He gives that person the authority they need to accomplish the mission. The word church comes from the Greek word ἐκκλησία ekklesia. It literally means the called ones. And an apostle is one who has been sent. The Greek is ἀποστέλλω apostellō.

Reflect on these three things.

  1. Jesus has called you to be with Him, to spend time with Him, to follow Him. As you spend time with Jesus what are you learning about who He is?

  2. Jesus is making you into who He wants you to be. What is Jesus forming or making in you? He is creative and you are His masterpiece. (See Eph 2:10 NLT)

  3. Jesus is sending you to the people He loves. When He sends you, He gives you the authority you will need. Who is Jesus sending you to?

Now GO!  Report back what God did as you obeyed.
